Joe Cada is the new 2009 WSOP Champion

All eyes were on the final table at the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, last night as PokerStars sponsored player, 21-year-old Michigan native Joseph Cada went head’s up against Darvin Moon, a 46 year old logger from western Maryland. After just 2.5 hours of play, Cada emerged victorious with $8.5 million in winnings, the WSOP championship title and a new record as the youngest Main Event champion in the history of the World Series.

Tony Hachem crowned ANZPT Champion

Two people walked away as champions on August 9th at the Gold Coast’s Conrad Jupiter’s casino two. Tony Hachem a member of Team PokerStars Pro Australia won the overall point’s race in the tour. Then there was Scott Kerr who outlasted 248 players to win the PokerStars.net ANZPT Queensland taking home $168,075.

Danny Chevalier crowned PokerStars.net ANZPT Queenstown Champion

Danny Chevalier out lasted 134 poker hopefuls to become the PokerStars.net Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) Queenstown Champion winning an impressive $87,435NZD.

This is the first time a poker event of this size has been held in Queenstown and the event was the largest on the South Island of New Zealand this year. The tournament started on Monday with four day ones.

SanCelina smashes summer Macau Poker Cup!

PokerStars.net Team Asia Pro Celina Lin won nearly HKD $400,000 by winning the Red Dragon event on July 12th and is now ranked number one on the Macau Poker Cup Leaderboard for both points and 奖金 money.

Bryan Huang's Jacks crowned him the Charity Event Champion

Team Asia Pro Bryan Huang from Singapore won the Charity Event on July 9th and final tabled the $500 Rebuy Event as he moved an amazing 49 spots up the leaderboard where he is now ranked 14th.

All about the new Australia New Zealand Poker Tour

PokerStars.net announced the launch of an exciting new poker tour which will be played across Australia and New Zealand – the PokerStars.net ANZPT. The first event is in Adelaide on Wednesday 4th February 2009.

The growth of poker in Australia and New Zealand over the past few years has been astounding; with figures showing there are over 400,000 Australian’s regularly playing poker. There has also been the success of tournaments in region such as the PokerStars.net APPT events in Auckland and Sydney, as well as the upcoming Aussie Millions. Now antipodeans have their very own tour which will further develop poker talent in the region.



WSOP Set to Run From May 26 - July 15, 2009

The 40th annual World Series of Poker® (WSOP®) -a set of poker tournaments open to anyone 21 years of age or older- will commence Wednesday, May 27 with the first of 57 gold bracelet events, and the next day a special $40,000 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament will commemorate the gaming industry's most illustrious event.

The annual poker extravaganza, which dates back to 1970, is televised exclusively on ESPN from the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and consists of a comprehensive slate of the game’s most popular variations.



Pokerstars breaks Guiness World Record!

The results are in. PokerStars – the world’s largest online poker site - has shattered the Guinness World Recordfor ‘Largest Online Poker Tournament’. On Sunday December 28, 2008, 35,000 players played the $11 buy-in world record tournament with PokerStars guaranteeing a $500,000 prize pool.

The tournament, which sold out well in advance, played for over 9.5 hours with and a record 8,750 players hitting the money. No deals were made and Stan34powa outlasted 34,999 players to win the world’s largest-ever tournament and $30,000. PokerStars had set the previous record with a field of 20,000 players in the Sunday Hundred Grand on July 29, 2007.




Macau Poker Cup sets new records during the Holiday Season!
Last Saturday, December 13th, 2008, Howard Stribble from Canada beat a pool of 51 players at the Deep Stack Event 50K Guarantee taking home the $27,540 prize. This tournament is part of the Macau Poker Cup presented by Pokerstars Macau. Howard Stibble wins the Deep Stack Event after placing 2nd at the same event in October


Macau Poker Cup sets new records during the Holiday Season!
PokerStars Macau defied the downwards trend in Asia’s gaming capitol as the December 2008 Macau Poker Cup surpassed the guaranteed prize pools that were already expected to set the bar at a new high. The signature Red Dragon Event was expanded as a two day tournament for the first time and shattered the HKD $400,000 guarantee as 57 players put their holiday shopping plans aside to compete for over HKD $535,000 in prize money.


A Red Dragon to remember
Another Macau Cup took place the second week of December at Pokerstars Macau. A pool of 57 players participated in the Red Dragon Event 400K Guarantee setting new records in terms of prize pool which was over $535,000 and a first prize value of $210,000. John Cheong took home the first prize after a hard battle against our HKPL member, Manish Sansi. John held the chip lead for the majority of the tournament. Manish was down to 400 chips at one point of the final table and amazingly went into heads up play as the chip leader.


Martin Lowe becomes Australia’s newest millionaire
Last Sunday December 7th, 34 year old Sydneysider Martin Rowe pocketed a massive $1 million to become the newest PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Grand Final champion, outplaying 476 rivals over the past five days.


Cheered on in front of his by family, friends and a home crowd, Martin, a father of (almost) two from North Sydney commented directly following his win: “I cannot believe I have won tonight. I felt on edge but not out of control the entire tournament and now to have the title I am just ecstatic – this will be life changing for my family.”


Manish Sansi makes it to the final table at APPT Manila
Manish Sansi is a very talented poker player from India who is starting to build his way up in the Asian Poker Tournament Circuit. Last November 16, he came out in seventh place at the APPT Manila Main Event winning USD $16,285.70 after being eliminated on an all-in move by Filipino player Ramil Tandoc. Last November 22, he came out second at the Patron HK Poker League Final Championship and won a Sidney Package that included an APPT Sidney Satellite Buy In. We asked him a few questions about Poker and here is what he had to say.

Justin Fung wins the Patron HK Poker League Season 3

Justin Fung, a 24 year old student from New York living in Hong Kong, is the new Patron Hong Kong’s Poker League Champion. Last November 22, when the Final Championship of season 3 was played at Pokerstars Macau Poker Room, he beat a pool of more than 40 players and got himself a seat to the APPT Sidney Finale, flight tickets and accommodation for two at the Star City Hotel and Casino in Australia. We asked him a few questions and here is what he had to say about his Poker experience.

AUSSIE VAN MARCUS TRIUMPHS AT APPT MANILA

Today Australian young gun Van Marcus triumphed at the PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Manila tournament in spectacular fashion after a gruelling 16 hours of final table play – the longest final table in APPT history. He won USD $162,856.98.

The 25-year-old from Melbourne has an impressive track record when it comes to the APPT. This was his third APPT Final Table appearance in the last 15 months, including previously placing fifth in the 2007 APPT Manila, and ninth in the 2008 APPT Macau High Rollers Event. This year he returned to Manila determined to become a Champion and that became a reality after three days of solid play at the Hyatt Hotel when he made a straight on a turn to send runner-up Noh Tae Jun of Korea to the rail.

Young Danish Pro Takes Home $9.1 Million In The 2008 WORLD SERIES OF POKER

PokerStars player Peter Eastgate has became the youngest main event champion after winning the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) earning him $9,152,416 million. The 22-year-old professional poker player from Odense, Denmark broke Phil Helmuth’s 19 year record for youngest main event champion that he set in 1989 at the age of 24. Eastgate also made history by playing in the first ever all European heads up WSOP main event showdown.

Ivan “SOUL” Demidov Finishes Second In The 2008 WORLD SERIES OF POKER

PokerStars player Ivan Demidov, a professional poker player from Moscow, Russia finished second at the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) earning him $5,809,595 million. Demidov raised the money to enter the main event with the help of a friend, who “invested” in the young Russian poker sensation. He was bested by PokerStars player Peter Eastgate from Denmark, in the first ever all European heads up WSOP main event showdown.

“When the field is as tough as this, it really comes down to who has the best cards, but I’m happy with how I played,” said Demidov. “This experience will change my life and my career in poker. I look forward to getting to play in all of the biggest tournaments in the world now and spreading the popularity of poker back home. Win or lose, it’s the best game in the world!”

A professional poker player whose astounding luck at the felt fails to translate into his love life attempts to win the World Series of Poker (WSOP) while simultaneously earning the affections of a Vegas singer is the story behind "Lucky You", the latest movie from L.A. Confidential director Curtis Hanson and Munich screenwriter Eric Roth.

"Lucky You," which opened in theaters nationwide last weekend, is the first true poker film since "Rounders" (1998) -- and that makes it the first true poker film since televised poker exploded in 2003.
