The key to winning that pot is built around the hand rankings. Once you understand how they work you will have a better appreciation of poker and a world of possibilities on game variations that are available to you. Here are the Poker Hand Rankings from the highest to lowest ranking hand

Royal Flush

High Card

Five of a Kind

Royal Flush Poker Hand Ranking
AKQJT of the same suit. This is the big kahuna, which every poker player strives for.

Straight Flush Poker Hand Ranking
Five card of the same suit in sequence.

Four of a Kind Poker Hand Ranking
All four cards of the same rank.

Full House Poker Hand Ranking
Three of a kind combined with a pair.

Flush Poker Hand Ranking
Five cards of the same suit but not in sequence.

Straight Poker Hand Ranking
Five cards in sequence but not of the same suit.

Three of a kind Poker Hand Ranking
Three cards of the same rank.

Two Pair Poker Hand Ranking
Two different pair with one odd card.

Pair Poker Hand Ranking
Two cards of the same rank with 3 odd cards.

High Card Poker Hand Ranking
Highest card in your hand or five cards that cannot make any of the above hands.

Five of a Kind Poker Hand Ranking
If you're adding a Wild Card to your poker game, the highest hand you can have would be the Five of a Kind. This, of course, only happens when you have a wild card to complete five cards of the same rank.
