All eyes were on the final table at the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, last night as PokerStars sponsored player, 21-year-old Michigan native Joseph Cada went head’s up against Darvin Moon, a 46 year old logger from western Maryland. After just 2.5 hours of play, Cada emerged victorious with $8.5 million in winnings, the WSOP championship title and a new record as the youngest Main Event champion in the history of the World Series.
Joe plays online at PokerStars under the name ‘jcada99’ joins the family of previous PokerStars World Champions; Peter Eastgate (2008), Joe Hachem (2005), Greg Raymer (2004), Chris Moneymaker (2003), Tom McEvoy (1983) and world renowned players like Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso and Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier.
“I’m stunned and amazed that it ended as I had hoped,” said the 2009 WSOP Champion and PokerStars sponsored player Joe Cada. “Winning is a dream come true for me and I’m grateful to have won against a serious opponent.”
Cada began the night with 135,950,000 chips, nearly a 3:1 lead over Moon. After several crucial hands and big swings in chips to both players, Cada clinched the championship title when he raised pre-flop to three million with a pair of 9’s. Moon made it eight million with a Jack and Queen of diamonds, when Cada shoved all in. Finally, the board ran out: 8,2,7,K,7 and Cada’s cunning won him the massive $8.5 million victory.
Cada became the youngest Main Event winner in the history of the WSOP. He broke the previous record held by Team PokerStars PRO Peter Eastgate, who won last year’s Main Event aged 22. Cada has played in tournaments in Canada, as well as at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas and the PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour in Costa Rica.
Cada began playing online poker at PokerStars. By the time he was 19 he had bought his first house. Prior to securing his seat at the final table, Cada had won more than $500,000 in career winnings. More aptly called “The Comeback Kid” today he stands as one of the wealthiest players in the sport.
The 40th World Series of Poker Main Event began with 6,494 entrants four months ago and a massive prize pool of $61,044,921. This year PokerStars sent a total of 1,823 players to the WSOP Main Event, more than any other site.

The world’s richest poker tour announces biggest season yet
John Duthie, Chief Executive of the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour (EPT), announced the first half of the schedule for EPT Season Six. The European Poker Tour is now the world’s richest poker tour in terms of both players and prize pools and is sponsored by PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site with over 23 million registered players worldwide.
"The new EPT season includes many events which have made the past five seasons such a triumph with world record breaking fields and prize pools across Europe.” said Duthie. “We have set very high standards and we aim to improve on this still further in Season Six - with new additions to the schedule as well as a richer mix of games and buy-ins to cater for more players.”
Last year’s PokerStars EPT season proved a massive success and overtook the WPT in terms of amount of players and prize pools. EPT Season Five generated an overall prize pool of almost €55 million (approx $77 million USD) with 7,980 players from 97 countries of which 3,077 were PokerStars players. The four richest prize pools available in poker tournaments outside the United States last year occurred during the fifth season of the PokerStars EPT at: the PCA ($12.7M USD); Monte Carlo ($12.3M USD); San Remo ($7.5M USD); and Barcelona (7M USD).
The EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final generated the biggest ever prize pool in Europe at more than €9.3 million. The Grand Final winner, newly-signed Team PokerStars Pro Netherlands member Pieter de Korver, a 26-year-old poker pro from Leeuwarden, Holland, bested a record field of 935 players to take the first prize of €2.3 million ($3.2 million USD).
“This year’s EPT will be bigger and better than ever, kicking off in August in one of our new scheduled destinations – magnificent Moscow in Russia. Overall, the tour will visit an unprecedented thirteen countries* - an increase of four events on top of last season. As well as Russia, the tour will include new stops in Portugal this November and other destinations to be announced shortly.” said Duthie
The PokerStars EPT Season Six looks set to continue building upon the successes of the previous five seasons, attracting even more players and even larger prize pools. There will be more ‘Festival of Poker’ style stops on the tour, beginning in London this October with “The Pokerstars.com EPT London Festival at the Hilton Metropole Hotel” which will feature significant Pot-Limit Omaha and 8-Game events, as well as the return of the popular High Roller event. The EPT London Main Event will likely be the richest tournament ever in the United Kingdom.
Online satellites for the PokerStars EPT Moscow, Season Six start today, Monday, 15 June, 2009 on PokerStars with buy-ins from as little as $2.22. Players who qualify on PokerStars don’t just win their seat; they also win hotel accommodation (or cash equivalent) and spending money as part of their prize package. Interview with Ka Ka Chan
Our feautured Dealer of this month is Ka Ka Chan. Discover what she has to say about the thrilling world of dealing poker. Read her interview and feel free to post comments.
Dealer Profile
Name: Ka Ka Last Name: Chan Age: 19 Nickname: Ka Kaaak! Gender: Female Nationality: Hong Kong Chinese Hobbies: Drawing and Reading. Favorite Poker Movie: God Of Gambling. Favorite Poker Game: Big 2.
When or what started you off in playing poker?
I watched some major tournaments in America on TV and thought there were not enough girls at the tables! I decided I wanted to play, then I was given the opportunity to become a dealer!
Which Dealer school did you attended?
‘HKPL KMDI’
Which other casino games do you like?
Apart from Poker I really enjoy playing Black Jack and Slot machines.
What is your favorite variation of Poker?
I like all variations of Poker but I must say I like the Cadillac of poker the most, that being Texas Holdem’.
What are your lucky pocket cards?
3, 8 believe it or not, wins every time!
Do you have any superstitions?
No I find superstitions generally rather unlucky.
What is the biggest game you have dealt?
I have dealt for some excellent players at the Hong Kong Poker House and during some tournaments for the HKPL, the last big event being the M1NT event where HKPL partners with Quintessentially.
What's one of the worst things anyone's said to you at the table?
I would share it with you but this interview is probably not allowed to be X rated! It was not a comment worth repeating!
Do you get a ton of poker dudes hitting on you?
Oh yes, nearly every day, not that it bothers me as they tend to tip generously!
What would you say is the Chinese Poker Player stereotype?
Chinese players are most known for having a lot of superstitions at the table. For example, having a certain seat, playing certain cards even if it makes no sense to play them, e.g. my favorite hand 3,8!
What is your favorite professional poker player and why?
Joe Hatchem is probably my favorite of all because he takes his wins as well as he takes his losses - He always wears a smile!
Do you play poker online?
Yes I do, I find online poker a great way to improve your game, especially for beginners, as you don’t lose face.
What is your favorite dealing memory?
During the M1NT event, half of a full table went all in! That does not happen very often!
Do you have any poker related fantasies?
Sure, winning the WSOP would be fantastic, why not!?
What do you like the most about dealing at the HK Poker League?
I love dealing for the Poker League because I have so many friends there, other dealers and players - It’s one big family for me.
What do you think about the new shuffle machines now in use in some poker rooms?
I don’t trust them! Dealers are always a better alternative!
Which 5 adjectives best describe you as a poker player?
1. Take risks.
2. Don’t take the game too seriously, have fun with it.
3. Trust you instinct.
4. Have Patience.
5. Distracting other players with my loud mouth.
Ben Condit
Ben Condit is an american poker player whose advertising work has brought him to Hong Kong. We decided to ask him a few questions. Here is what he had to say about Poker.
Birthday: December 17, 1980 Place of Birth: Washington, D.C. Place of Residency: Hong Kong Marital Status: Taken Occupation: Advertising
How did you get started playing poker?
Hell if I remember. I’ve always enjoyed it – used to actually play monthly house games at Jeff’s place two or three years ago, but those were just for fun. Everyone would throw in a couple hundred, and the rule was the winner would buy the first bottle of champagne afterwards. Bizarrely we’d usually end up at Edge – before it closed down, and at the height of its high school days. Nothing like a bunch of late 20’s and early 30 year old guys and gals partying it up in a high school club. All class.
Do you consider yourself a poker pro?
You are a funny man.
What is your favorite poker hand?
There is nothing more satisfying that limping in with low pocket pairs and hitting that set…the shell shocked look on people’s faces as you flip ‘em over is just…sublime. I’m a good person, clearly.
Do you have any superstitions at the table?
It’s not a superstition, but I hate seat one. Can’t see, not comfortable, and have to get out of the way of every dealer change. Yes, life is difficult.
How would you describe playing style?
Erratic? I get bored easily…and unless I’m particularly focused on winning something I tend to be too aggressive. I’m actually really curious to see how the tournament in Macau is going to go – if only because there won’t be any rebuy craziness.
What has been the most surprising thing you have learned about playing in tournaments?
That I even make the final table? Or really, that all you have to do is be patient? It’s almost pointless to attempt bluffs unless you’re in amazing position or know the players at the table. People are freakishly call happy – like Davidson “I’ve got to call it” Wong. I swear he calls anything…I’m going to get him a Riverdance CD.
What do you think about the HKPL?
I love it. The competition in the series is brilliant – tracking points, etc. on the website is exactly the right move. I can see there’s a ton of stuff in the works that’s finally starting to be executed.
How well do you think Poker is being promoted in via www.hkpokerleague.com, www.hkph.com.hk and www.pokertvasia.com?
Fairly well. It’s not overly girl friendly on the site. Makes it a bit tricky sometimes convincing folks to give it a try…although I think a lot of what’s recently been happening – the new prizes, the venue variety, etc. is great.
The sky is the limit with poker in Hong Kong…and Asia in general for that matter. Definitely looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.
Do you play online poker? If Yes, where do you play and why, and if No, why?
Nah. I like live games. The idle chit chat, kidding around, etc. Online poker…I just can’t bring myself to spend time on it. If I’m going to play anything online, it’s going to be my Xbox for twenty minutes, so I can blow stuff up.
Who are your favorite poker pro players and why?
You’re talking to the guy who didn’t know who Joe Hachem when he won a seat in the Beat Joe Hachem tournament. Honestly, I’ve seen season one of the WPT, but I don’t really have a favorite player…
What have been your best achievements in poker to date?
Currently first overall in the Macau Cup Series. A clear sign that I have invested heavily in rebuys.
What steps are behind becoming a great poker player?
I’m told patience. I’m guessing studying as many poker books as possible would help as well?
What are your main ambitions in Poker for the future?
Winning the Red Dragon in Macau would do nicely. :-P
What advice would you give to up and coming poker players?
Me thinks I’m far too amateur to be offering advice like this…but, just have fun with it? Tournaments are great because you limit your potential loss when learning as well. Ah, and if you’re holding pocket A’s, and I go all in, you should fold. Really.
If you were to win a million dollars, what would you do with the money and why?
Pay off my mom’s law school loans. At the age of 56 she’s about to become a lawyer, if you can believe it. A fine example of the simple fact that you can do anything, anytime, if you just set your mind to it.
Oh ok, and I’d throw a massive, insane party on the Grand Cru. Just because I’m a bit immature like that. Actually, I may do that anyway…
What are your main interests outside of poker?
Golf, dodgeball (seriously), travel, and the girlfriend. Vodka, but only in vast quantities. Which reminds me to call the Grand Hyatt…

"Whether you play poker around the kitchen table or consider yourself a professional, you will find a comfortable seat at the 2009 World Series of Poker," said Jeffrey Pollack, commissioner of the World Series of Poker. "This year's schedule offers more variety than ever before and we look forward to welcoming players from around the world to the Rio for our 40th annual extravaganza this summer."
The famed Amazon Room in the Rio Convention Center once again will serve as the center of the poker universe this summer, featuring the same highly popular blueprint as last year.

Players will be encouraged to register through a streamlined online process in advance of coming to Las Vegas to avoid being shutout of their favorite events. Any foreign entrants who wire transfer monies will receive the exchange rate into U.S. dollars at the time of the wire transfer, thus locking in their exchange rate in advance.
A complete array of satellites, from single-table to mega, will be offered beginning from May 26-July 5, 2009. Nightly No-Limit Hold’em tournaments will be offered from May 26-July 14 at 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM.

Manish was down to 400 chips at one point of the final table and amazingly went into heads up play as the chip leader.
Final hand: John is now the chip leader and calls for 3000 chips. Flop is Ks-Qs-9d and Manish leads out with a 6000 chip bet. John raises to 20,000 chips and Manish calls. Martin Lowe becomes Australia’s newest millionaire
Last Sunday December 7th, 34 year old Sydneysider Martin Rowe pocketed a massive $1 million to become the newest PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Grand Final champion, outplaying 476 rivals over the past five days.
Cheered on in front of his by family, friends and a home crowd, Martin, a father of (almost) two from North Sydney commented directly following his win: “I cannot believe I have won tonight. I felt on edge but not out of control the entire tournament and now to have the title I am just ecstatic – this will be life changing for my family.”
The Final Table began with nine players from an impressive starting field of 477, including the current 22 year old World Champion Peter Eastgate and past champions Joe Hachem and Chris Moneymaker, competing for a prize pool of over $2.8 million.
With the final table made up of seven Aussies, it was fitting the title remained in Australia (a Pole and Canadian made up the remainder). Final table play lasted a gruelling nine and a half hours. In the final hand of the tournament Martin raised and Jason went all in before the community cards were laid out – Martin called and tabled A Q and Gray showed 9 5 suited. The board played out and Martin was crowned the champion of the PokerStars.net APPT Sydney Grand Final with two pair.
“It is fantastic to see an Australian champion in the APPT Grand Final for the second year in a row. Amongst a great international lineup it represents the calibre of poker in this country,” commented APPT President Jeffrey Haas.

Justin Fung wins the Patron HK Poker League Season 3
Justin Fung, a 24 year old student from New York living in Hong Kong, is the new Patron Hong Kong’s Poker League Champion. Last November 22, when the Final Championship of season 3 was played at Pokerstars Macau Poker Room, he beat a pool of more than 40 players and got himself a seat to the APPT Sidney Finale, flight tickets and accommodation for two at the Star City Hotel and Casino in Australia. We asked him a few questions and here is what he had to say about his Poker experience.
Birthday: March 11, 1984 Place of Birth: New York, New York Place of Residency: Hong Kong Marital Status: Single Occupation: Student
How did you get started playing poker?
I had been playing casually since I was about 16. When the poker explosion took place in the US, I started playing more. There was more money in play and I knew that improving my game would pay off.
Do you consider yourself a poker pro?
Not at all. I love the game and I enjoy spending time at the table, but I don't believe that my skills are at a professional level.
What is your favorite poker hand? Lucky hand?
I make a conscious effort to avoid labeling favorites. I wouldn't let the other cards to get jealous.
Do you have any superstitions at the table?
I don't believe in superstitions... They're unlucky
What is your playing style?
I am an incredibly boring cash game player. I take shots when they're necessary, but my swings are minimal because I'm not very loose. Multi-table tournaments are a completely different beast. With so many different variables constantly changing, you have to adjust your game on the fly. I'm not a great tournament player, but I really enjoy them. I've only taken down a few MTTs, but I'm confident my game is improving.
What has been the most surprising thing you have learned about playing in tournaments?
Well like I said, tournament poker and cash game poker share very little in common. Playing in tournaments teaches you how to think on your toes. In every tournament you are faced with at least one life or death situation (maybe I'm being dramatic, but you get what I mean). When you're short-stacked, with your back against the wall, you learn a little bit about yourself.
What do you think about the HKPL?
The HKPL has done a great job introducing new players in Hong Kong to the game of poker. It has also been influential in getting existing players out of the woodwork. Hong Kong now has a legitimate poker scene.
Do you play online poker? If Yes, where do you play and why?
I used to play online with several different sites, but I only play live nowadays. There's nothing like flipping over the nuts against a stunned opponent. Poker wouldn't be as fun without the priceless looks I get at the table.
Who are your favorite poker pro players?
There are quite a few players that I like to watch purely for entertainment value: Scotty Nguyen might be my favorite. Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, Phil Hellmuth, Minh "The Master" Nguyen and Daniel Negreanu are among the others.
What are your best achievements in poker?
I'm the reigning HKPL champion! I've also had success playing in cash games, but there is no title or trophy that comes with that.
What are the steps behind becoming a great poker player?
Aside from being a mathematical genius with a huge bankroll, I haven't the slightest clue. I'll let you know if I ever figure it out.
What are your main ambitions for the future within the game of poker?
I want to win a major championship one day. WSOP, APPT, or WPT. If that doesn't happen, I'll be content with being a successful cash game player.
What are your suggestions to up and coming poker players?
Keep the stakes low until you figure out the game. Playing in games outside of your budget is not only dangerous, but will likely yield fewer lessons.
If you were to win a million dollars, what would you do with the money?
Fly my old fraternity brothers (DTD at Duke) to Hong Kong and take them all for the craziest weekend imaginable in Macau! Or I could be responsible with the money. What would a responsible person do with a million dollars?
What are your main interests outside of poker?
I'm a huge sports fan. Baseball in particular is my passion. I watch it, I read about it, and I collect pre-WWI tobacco and caramel company baseball cards (I love acting like a kid once in a while). I was a history major in university, and I like to keep up with it, so I'll read historical books a couple times a year.
AUSSIE VAN MARCUS TRIUMPHS AT APPT MANILA
Today Australian young gun Van Marcus triumphed at the PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Manila tournament in spectacular fashion after a gruelling 16 hours of final table play – the longest final table in APPT history. He won USD $162,856.98.
The 25-year-old from Melbourne has an impressive track record when it comes to the APPT. This was his third APPT Final Table appearance in the last 15 months, including previously placing fifth in the 2007 APPT Manila, and ninth in the 2008 APPT Macau High Rollers Event. This year he returned to Manila determined to become a Champion and that became a reality after three days of solid play at the Hyatt Hotel when he made a straight on a turn to send runner-up Noh Tae Jun of Korea to the rail.
In a final table field that included three local Filipinos, three Koreans, a Kiwi and Hong Kong resident, Aussie Van warmed up after the first few hours and steamrolled the field. He outplayed 284 other competitors from 31 countries, including 65 players who qualified online at PokerStars. The Australian was ecstatic to take out his first APPT title.
“I guess it is third time lucky on this tour. I have now made three final tables on the APPT – it feels great to finally hold a title. And even better I get a ticket to the Sydney Grand Final. Hopefully I can replicate this week’s performance in front of a home crowd,” commented Van directly following his win.
Manila is the fourth stop on the second season of Asia and the Pacific’s largest and most successful poker tour, the PokerStars.net APPT, which in the last three months has also had major events in Macau, Seoul and Auckland. This year’s tour will culminate in a Grand Final at the beautiful Star City Casino in Sydney, Australia this December 2-7, when approximately 600 players, including Van, will battle for more than US$2 million in prize money.
“We are thrilled to see an Australian champion on the APPT as we head into the Sydney Grand Final. It is great to see all final table players coming from countries across the Asia Pacific – to me this represents the significant impact PokerStars.net and the APPT have had on the development of poker across the region in the last year. The Philippines is the beating heart of poker in Asia today and so it was very fitting to have three locals included in the final nine today,” commented APPT President Jeffrey Haas.
Qualifier satellites are currently running for the APPT Sydney Grand Final both online at PokerStars and live at Star City Casino. For further details visit www.appt.com.

Young Danish Pro Takes Home $9.1 Million In The 2008 WORLD SERIES OF POKER
PokerStars player Peter Eastgate has became the youngest main event champion after winning the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) earning him $9,152,416 million. The 22-year-old professional poker player from Odense, Denmark broke Phil Helmuth’s 19 year record for youngest main event champion that he set in 1989 at the age of 24. Eastgate also made history by playing in the first ever all European heads up WSOP main event showdown.
“It’s an honour to hold the record as youngest World Series of Poker main event champion,” said Eastgate. “I played really solidly throughout this tournament and I’m proud of that. This gives a new level of credibility for young online players. Thanks to sites like PokerStars, we have become a force to face on the felt.”
Eastgate is one of the top cash poker players in Denmark, and has already made a name for himself in several tournaments across Europe and online. Earlier this year, he finished in the top 30 at PokerStars EPT Copenhagen and made the final table of the Irish Poker Open in 2007. During the three month break, Eastgate has been playing $200-400 No Limit Hold’ Em on PokerStars to sharpen up for the final table.
“Peter is the kind of player who is not afraid to put you under the gun,” said Team PokerStars Pro Noah Boeken. “I’m impressed by the way he played this tournament. He is a great testament to the young, up-and-coming European players in the poker field.”
The soft spoken and stone cold Eastgate is known for his ultra-aggressive playing style, which was evident in this year’s final table. He headed into with the final table in fourth place with a stack of more than 18 million in chips. Entering heads up play, Eastgate was ahead in chips, $79.5 million to $57.7 million, and never looked back. The deciding and historic hand for Eastgate came when Demidov’s two pair, fours and deuces ran into Eastgate’s straight, Ace to the five.
More than 1,000 PokerStars qualifiers competed in this year's World Series main event and 123 of these PokerStars players have cashed at this year's event - winning more than $9 million between them and leaving another $32.6 million up for grabs at the final table event. The PokerStars Million Dollar Men have walked away with just under $27.5 bringing the total cash winnings for PokerStars players at the 2008 WSOP main event to more than $36 million.
Among Team PokerStars Pro, Daniel ‘Kid Poker’ Negreanu won his 4th WSOP bracelet in the Limit Hold'em Event, cashing $204,874. Poker legend Barry Greenstein won his 3rd WSOP bracelet in the Seven Card Razz Event and Italian poker pro Dario Minieri recorded his first WSOP bracelet in the No-Limit Hold'em Six-Handed event pocketing $528,418.

Demidov raised the money to enter the main event with the help of a friend, who “invested” in the young Russian poker sensation. He was bested by PokerStars player Peter Eastgate from Denmark, in the first ever all European heads up WSOP main event showdown.
“When the field is as tough as this, it really comes down to who has the best cards, but I’m happy with how I played,” said Demidov. “This experience will change my life and my career in poker. I look forward to getting to play in all of the biggest tournaments in the world now and spreading the popularity of poker back home. Win or lose, it’s the best game in the world!”
Demidov entered the final table as the overwhelming favourite by many for his strong play over the past few months. In October, Demidov finished third in the WSOP Europe main event to become the only player in history to make both WSOP main event final tables. After his successful run in Europe, Demidov was the one to watch going into the final table. The 27-year old, Moscow native gets his inspiration from Team PokerStars Pro Alex Kravchenko, who finished fourth in the 2007 main event; the pair are examples of the growing poker field in Russia.
“Ivan’s game has really impressed me this year,” said poker legend and Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu. “I played with him on at WSOPE final table and he has shown that he knows deep stack poker and can run with the best.”
Before the WSOP Main Event, Demidov made an 11th place finish and won more than $39,000 in this year's WSOP $1,000 No Limit Hold'em event. He has made a name for himself in several tournaments across Europe and finished 3rd in a side event at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic in 2007.
Demidov headed into with the final table second to chip leader Dennis Phillips with more than 24 million in chips. Entering heads up play, Demidov was behind Eastgate in chips, $79.5 million to $57.725 million Demidov’s last hand came when his two pair, fours and deuces ran into Eastgate’s straight, Ace to the five.

Christophe Baleyte wins Patron HK Poker League Final Event
Christophe
Baleyte wins Patron HK Poker League Final Event (presented by Pokestars.net) and takes home the Seat and Travel Package to the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT).
The final table consisted of the following 10 players.
1st Christophe Baleyte
2nd Eve Lin
3rd Jon Coombs
4th Kwan Chi Man
5th Jonathan Yip
6th Steven Chen
7th Sylvan Gingras
8th Some Guy (preferred to be anonymous)
9th James Johnson
10th Simon Laveau
When the tournament got down to the final table, it was easy to tell
these players played more with skill and less with luck. There were lots of
different playing styles that lead to big hands, which meant it was an all
out battle for first. Eve Lin played very well and rolled over the last half
of the final table players and took the chip lead. Lin was one of the Patron
HKPL Season #1 women’s points’ leaders. She got heads up against Christophe
Baleyte for the championship playing very smart and aggressively until she
moved all in with J 10 Clubs against Christophe’s 7 10 diamonds, with a flop
of 8 clubs – 10 hearts – 3 diamonds. She was feeling confident when the turn
card brought a 6 of diamonds, giving Christophe a flush draw which he didn’t
end up needing after the river card was a 7 of hearts. That hand took Eve
out of the chip lead. Christophe, finally, after a long heads up match, called
Eve’s all in with A 8 off to his pocket 4’s. The pockets held up and that
was the final blow to Eve’s stack.
Christophe Baleyte from Hong Kong beat out 80 players at the final event to get the bragging rights and the championship title, along with entry and travel to the Asian Pacific Poker Tour of his choice and a chance at millions of HKD. The estimated value of the package is about $6000usd/50,000hkd- not bad for a free play poker series. When Christophe was asked about his win he said “now it’s time to play with the big boys and win some real money. I’m glad I’ve been able to be a part of this series. It’s good fun, and HKPL and M1nt have done a good job of making a real poker experience.”

One of the shortest stacks ,Michel St-Pierre , impressed a lot
by his last hand. St-Pierre shoved his stacks all in pre-flop with
:kh: :td: ,against Kim ‘s :qc: :jc: flop definitely did good for
St-Pierre and gave him flush draw, and turn didn’t improve Kim’s
situation, either. Nevertheless, river hit Kim, paring his hand,
beat his opponent enough :jd:. St-Pierre stopped his tournament

cards :6h: :3c: while Kim flipped out :qc: :4c:, he was given the
flush draw. Nevertheless, the river :2s: didn’t sort Kim out from
bad situation ,the tournament went ahead without 3rd place.
Now let’s see the breakdown of chips:
Ziv Bachar - 1,677,000
Jozef Berec - 185,000
We could see Ziv Bachar was ahead of Jozef Berec 10 times.
Bachar spent few hands to crown the title of APPT. in the last
hand, Berec alled in his chips with cards: :kc: :9c: and Bachar
called with :kd: :tc: . we saw the flop: :qh: :qc: :6d: ,now, Bachar
was leading, the turn :ks: paired both player’s hands. The river,
:2d: helped nobody, we could see, Berec was busted by Bachar with

Brett Parise crowned the champion of Asia Pacific Poker Tour
For 22-year-old Brett Parise, the roller coaster ride to the APPT
championship began before he even left home. The California college
student received his passport a mere two hours before boarding the
plane for the Philippines after winning his seat in the APPT Manila
Main Event in a PokerStars
freeroll. After three days of play and a nearly three-hour-long
heads-up match, the young American prevailed over a global final
table to take down the PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour trophy
and the $179,775 first-place prize money. Of the nine competitors
that remained in the field as Day 3 of the APPT Manila Main Event
began, one common thread ran through many of them: inexperience.
Two of the final table players had never played in a live tournament
before, and several others had never played in a tournament this
big before. Van Marcus, who started Day 3 as the chip leader, was
a notable exception to that rule, with a 2007 WSOP final table in
Pot Limit Omaha and two final tables at this year's Aussie Millions
event under his belt.
The
chip counts were as follows to start the final table:
Van Marcus - 738,000
Roger Spets - 413,000
Derick Hernandez - 287,000
Nicholas Bamman - 240,000
Bas van Liere - 207,000
Maor Feldinger - 199,000
Ira Blumenthal - 184,000
Brett Parise - 173,000
Kazuhiro Sato - 109,000
The short-stacked Sato wasted no time getting his chips in the middle,
as he pushed all in on the sixth hand of the day with . Derick Hernandez quickly called with pocket queens, but an ace
on the flop doubled up Sato and left Hernandez with a big dent in
his stack. Hernandez' streak continued on the very next hand, when
he pushed all-in over the top of Brett Parise's pre-flop re-raise.
Parise called, and tabled . Hernandez held , but was drawing thin when the flop came , giving Parise middle set. No ace came on the turn or river,
and local favorite Hernandez was eliminated in ninth place for $11,386.
Sato's aggressive play doubled him up early, but crippled him in
a hand shortly afterwards with Maor Feldinger. Feldinger called
Sato's preflop raise to see a flop of . Feldinger check-raised Sato all in, and Sato called after a
moment's thought. Sato's was no good against Feldinger's , and Sato was crippled when no help came on the last two streets.
The next hand saw Sato eliminated by Ira Blumenthal, who held pocket
jacks to Sato's . Sato couldn't catch up and went to the rail in eighth place
($14,981). Bas van Liere was the next to fall, as he ran his into Maor Feldinger's . No ace arrived for the Dutchman, and he was eliminated in seventh
place for $20,974.
After the rapid-fire bustouts of the first few levels, play slowed
down considerably until Roger Spets, making the final table in his
first live tournament, shoved his short stack in with , doubling through Parise's on a final board of . Still the short stack, Spets shoved again on the very next hand
with pocket sixes, running into the pocket jacks of Ira Blumenthal
to depart in sixth place for $26,966, a good return for his first
foray into live tournament play.
At the dinner break, Ira Blumenthal had claimed the chip lead,
and the stacks looked like this:
Seat 2: Nicholas Bamman - 464,000
Seat 4: Brett Parise - 372,000
Seat 5: Ira Blumenthal - 694,000
Seat 6: Maor Feldinger - 525,000
Seat 9: Van Marcus - 496,000
Players became more tentative after dinner, and Australian pro Van
Marcus used that to his advantage, applying pressure pre-flop to
pick up orphaned blinds and antes. He soon dragged a monster pot
from Maor Feldinger just before Feldinger was eliminated. Feldinger's
final hand was a pre-flop shove from the button with , which missed the board of , and fell to Nicholas Bamman, who had called Feldinger's push
with . Feldinger collected $35,955 for his three days in the Philippines.
Van Marcus started Day 3 as the chip leader, but fell behind early
and was never able to recover. Just a few hands after Feldinger
busted in fifth, Marcus saw his all in pre-flop raise called by
Parise, who had Marcus well covered. Marcus tabled , and was dominated by Parise's . The board brought , and Marcus was eliminated in fourth for $44,944.
Nicholas Bamman lasted through two hours of three-handed play before
pushing pushing all-in over the top of Parise with pocket kings.
Parise called with , and the flop of left Bamman well in the lead, looking to dodge an ace or another
seven. The turn brought a heartbreaking , and the on the river was irrelevant, sending Bamman back to Princeton,
NJ in third place ($62,921).
Heads-up play was a cautious back-and-forth affair as the 22-year
old student from California and the 45-year-old attorney jockeyed
for position for nearly three hours before a winner could finally
be determined. Parise led his opponent in big-field tournament experience,
having played in the Mixed Hold'Em event at the 2007 WSOP, but Blumenthal
held his own as the evening wore on. Finally, a short-stacked Blumenthal
pushed all-in preflop with , and Parise called instantly with . The board brought drama in the form of , giving Blumenthal an inside straight draw, but neither the on the turn nor the on the river would complete Blumenthal's draw, giving Parise
the championship trophy and the first-prize money of $179,775. Blumenthal
collected $113,858 for his second-place finish.

of Poker (WSOP) while simultaneously earning the affections of a
Vegas singer is the story behind "Lucky You", the latest
movie from L.A. Confidential director Curtis Hanson and Munich screenwriter
Eric Roth.
"Lucky You," which opened in theaters nationwide last
weekend, is the first true poker film since "Rounders"
(1998) -- and that makes it the first true poker film since televised
poker exploded in 2003.
"Lucky You" premiered in Las Vegas at the Red Rock Casino
Thursday night. There was a New York premiere earlier in the week
for the actors and the mainstream media, but this night was for
the poker players, many of whom had roles in the film. This wasn't
a classic Hollywood premiere, and there were no limos pulling up
to crowds of fans in front of the theater. The red carpet was just
15 feet long, and it was inside the casino at the entrance to the
theater. While there was no sign of Robert Duvall, Eric Bana, or
Drew Barrymore (the stars of the film who attended the New York
premiere), fans got to see the likes of Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu,
Erick Lindgren, Chau Giang, Greg Raymer, Scotty Nguyen, and Mike
Matusow.
The
movie: Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore) is the young singer from Bakersfield
with more heart than talent. Huck Cheever (Eric Bana) is the pro
poker player whose emotions at the table often undermine his exceptional
skill, especially when he is heads up with his estranged father,
poker legend L.C. Cheever (Robert Duvall).
The one aptitude Billie and Huck seem to share is a knack for reading
people--the difference is what they do with that gift.
While Huck's instincts enable him to take advantage of his opponents
at the poker table and expertly avoid both emotional connections
and long-term commitments in his personal life, Billie uses her
intuition to see the emotional truth of those around her and sympathize
with their pain.
When these two meet, the real game begins. If Huck is going to win
Billie's heart, he must learn to play cards the way he has been
living life and live his life the way he has been playing cards.
